Appeal for the life of Toomaj Salehi

As artists, musicians, writers, and cultural figures, we express our closeness and solidarity with the Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi who has been sentenced to death in Iran for accompanying with his music the voice of the movement of women and men who fight bravely and with their bare hands for rights, freedom, and democracy in their country.
We call on the European Parliament, the Parliaments of all member countries, their Governments, the European Council, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission to take action with the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the immediate and unconditional cancellation of his death sentence, for the cancellation of all charges against him regarding the free expression of his art, and to free him without any delay.
We defend in every place and in every state in the world the right of any artist to manifest freely, by his art, by the free expression of thought and criticism, by speech, by writing, by music and by any other means of dissemination, including satire.
Art, like the press, cannot be subject to authorization or censorship of any kind.
We also address this heartfelt call for mobilization in all institutional, national and international fora so that the lives of all those sentenced to death in Iran are also saved.
