The UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide briefed the Security Council, reinforcing concerns already expressed by other senior UN officials in the room, on the “heightened risks” of sexual violence and human trafficking, which are “significantly affecting women and children” since the Russian invasion on 24 February.
